Agriculture has been part of Mecklenburg County since its beginning over 250 years ago in 1765, but a growing number of our local landowners have re-envisioned their traditional farming operations to open their doors to visitors.
We still have many traditional family farms, however, several have joined the “farm-to-fork” movement, and more and more are embracing agritourism initiatives.
So, what is Agritourism, you ask? Just about everything from wineries to distilleries to interactive farm tours and stays. If it involves growing something and you can visit or enjoy it, we’re welcoming it to our family of offerings here in Southern Virginia.
So, take time to visit our Farmers Markets and U-Picks across the region to meet our actual farmers, and, of course, be ready to sample and take home some foods. The farm-to-fork movement is in full stride nationwide – but here, you actually get to experience the “farm.”
